The Institutional Instructor provides education services to the offender population at the Rankin Inlet Healing Facility within established guidelines, which adheres to the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles, in order to provide educational service that will promote rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders. Educational services provided vary from basic literacy skills, Adult Basic Education covering grades One to Twelve, Vocational Programs through services offered by the Institutional Instructor, offenders will be better prepared for their release back to the community by having improved their skill set and education levels and also job readiness. The Institutional Instructor also contributes to overall programming in the centre through planned activities both inside and outside of the facility.

The Institutional Instructor is the sole instructor in the facility and is responsible for educational services for each of the units inside the centre. Complete assessments on the offenders referred to the program. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising up to 10 offenders at a time. The incumbent provides instruction in the following areas; Pass Program, Trades Exams, Basic Literacy, ABE, High School credits and other areas as required.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are obtained through the completion of a degree in Adult Education related field with a minimum of 2 years related experience.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
