Human Resources Assistant

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources (HR) Assistant is responsible for the daily upkeep, verification, tracking, filing and processing of the Department of Economic Development and Transportation’s (ED&T) leave & attendance processes, pay processing and staffing actions. The incumbent will provide staff with expert advice on the policies and procedures around leave and attendance and keep up to date electronic records and physical files for the department. The incumbent will also provide human resource support to the Training & Development Specialist and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Coordinator. In addition, this position will provide services and statistics to develop, implement and advance ED&T’s Inuit Employment Plan and initiatives consistent with Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement.
The incumbent is required to ensure smooth functioning within the Department. This position requires the incumbent to maintain confidentiality regarding the substance and structure of the work undertaken. The incumbent ensures that the Department adheres to and responds to the requirements outlined in the Human Resource Manual, Nunavut Employees Union Collective Agreement, the Excluded and Senior Managers Handbooks, and any other applicable legislation, regulations, policies, directives and procedures.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through the successful completion of Grade 12 along with three (3) years experience in Human Resource, Finance, or office administration.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in Inuktitut is an asset for this position. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
