Health Records Technician - Re-Advertisement

Reporting to the Manager Health Records, this position is responsible for providing professional expertise in clinical data compilation and reporting for all hospital admissions; whose data quality impacts on national databases integrity utilized for monitoring health trends, funding and strategic planning. The Health Records Technician ensures patient care documentation is completed to protect the medico-legal interests of all Kivalliq region physicians and health care providers. As the successful you will be analyzing, coding, abstracting and reporting health information for the Kivalliq Health Centre in accordance with national standards, government policy, health legislation, health policies, directives and guidelines.
The Health Records Technician will be reviewing medical documentation of hospital admission and ambulatory care (emergency) patient cases; including discharge summaries, emergency reports, medical histories and physical examinations, progress notes, consultations, labour and delivery records, operative reports, medication and diagnostic reports. A responsibility is the abstracts hospital admission and ambulatory care patient cases, to data quality standards, for reporting to the Canadian Institute for Health Information by initiating monthly downloads from computerized admission/discharge/transfer system (MediPatient) to electronic health records abstracting system (Med2020 WinRecs) and verifying period-end batch interface. As the successful candidate you will coordinate the chart completion process for discharges patients to ensure patient care documentation is accurately completed in a timely manner by notifying doctors and other health care professionals of any charting deficiencies needing correction to confirm health records are complete. You will also provide centralized control of records transfers between hospital/health centre and agencies in accordance with privacy and confidentiality requirements by receiving and responding to verbal or written request to release health records/patient information to various agencies including; other health care facilities, care providers, coroners, police, lawyers, insurance carriers and researchers.
To be invited for an interview you need a sound knowledge of personal/health information privacy legislation and principles; and confidentiality practices; current knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and pathophysiology is required to enable clear understanding and appropriate interpretation of clinical information. The knowledge of ICD-10/CCI current coding standards, case mix grouping (CMG) and resource intensity weighting (RIW) methodologies. Computer skills in word processing, database management, spreadsheets and report writing.
Must be a graduate of an approved program in Health Information Management or Health Records Technology as recognized by the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and a CHIMA member in good standing. “CHIM” professional certification with the Canadian College of Health Information Management is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French.
Familiarity with MediTech software is an asset.
Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
