Reporting to the Deputy Warden of Programs, the Food Service Manager (Manager) is responsible for the administration and direction of Food Services for five (5) facilities: Baffin Correctional Center, Makigiarvik, Young Offenders, Uttaqivik Community Residential Centre, and the Women’s Facility. This position will ensure the nutritional and therapeutic requirements and needs of inmates are met through menu planning, the development of standardized recipes, and through the production sheets.

The Manager is responsible to plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily operations You will also be required to implement operational procedures, and ensure all health and safety regulations are met. You will also  be responsible for: administrative functions; unit hiring; supervising and coaching staff; setting staff work schedules; monitoring staff performance; and addressing and resolving labour relation issues. Maintaining and analyzing financial reports and budgets, and ultimately being accountable for the overall financial success of this operation, is a requirement of this position.

The successful candidate of this position must have a two (2) year culinary Diploma, or Red Seal, from an accredited institution. In addition, this position requires: the “Food Safe I and II” Certificates within last three (3) years, the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), the First Aid and CPR certifications. Also, the incumbent will have as a minimum three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity directly related to the food service industry, and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience cooking in an institutional, preferably in healthcare or similar setting, preparing for a high volume of clients. Experience in purchasing and inventory control for high volume (100 or more people) is also required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French.  Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.  Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
