Family Resource Worker

Reporting to the Supervisor of Children & Family Services, the Family Resource Worker will work as a support for the Community Social Worker and other community resources to coordinate prevention, support, harm-reduction, liaising and community development programs.’Family-centered’ community practice involve daily interventions such as: foster parent support, child welfare interventions, counseling, youth support, elder support as well as family violence interventions, liaising with schools and other service providers. The ability to work with and support other disciplines in promoting the overall health of both the family and community will be a vital part of the Family Resource Worker.
Responsibilities include identifying and providing support to families with personal and social issues to prevent escalation. The incumbent will work with families who have parenting or substance abuse issues by linking them with appropriate local resources to reduce these and other issues. Work with local service providers to identify resources in the community that can be utilized to build a healthy community.
Experience working with families, children, elders and youth is required to be successful in this position. The incumbent must have basic counselling and group facilitation skills. Strong written and oral skills in both Inuktitut and English are required as well as strong record keeping and report writing skills. The incumbent must have crisis intervention skills, strong computer skills in MS Office programs and the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. The incumbent must have excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge of programs based on Inuit Societal Values. Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASSIST) or ability to complete training within six months from date of hiring is a requirement.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a Human Resource Services Diploma or Social Services Worker Diploma.
Minimum of grade 12 with two years related experience. Human Resource Services Diploms or Social Services Worker Diploma or related certificate.
