This is a Senior Management position reporting directly to Executive Director. The Director Population Health is accountable for providing regional leadership for the implementation of programs on communicable disease control, environmental health, public health, health promotions, nutrition, chronic disease and injury prevention, community development for health & wellness. You as the successful candidate will work closely with the Headquarters’ division of Population Health and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) to ensure that the wide range of programs offered by population health staff in Nunavut meet the needs of the client groups in a rapidly growing and changing environment.

The Kivalliq Region covers the central area Nunavut and includes approximately 30% total population of the Territory. Approximately 10,000 residents spread across eight (8) communities.  The Director Population Health will manage, administer and measure the effective region-wide delivery of a range of communicable disease control, environmental health, public health, health promotion, nutrition and chronic disease and injury prevention programs and services that focus on health & wellness and community development. This position provides program consultation, supervisory leadership and strategic direction to the regional staff delivering communicable disease control, environmental health, health promotion, nutrition, and chronic disease and injury prevention programs and services. There are six (6) subordinates.  

Specialized knowledge of health determinants and community development theory and general health and social services issues. A broad knowledge of programs areas including, but not limited to, community development, programs of communicable disease control, environmental health, health promotion, and chronic disease and injury prevention. The knowledge of promotional and intervention techniques in systems and groups, community development, matching resources allocated with realistic outcomes.

To be invited for an interview; you require a University degree and experience in any of the following; Health and/or Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Administration, also a minimum of five (5) years of successful senior management experience.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatugangit is an asset.

This is a three year term position ending March 31, 2022. Current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees, who apply and are successful on this term position competition, may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term.
