Reporting to the Director Iqaluit Community Services, the incumbent coordinates the provision of dental services in the Qikiqtaaluk region. The position reviews the level of need for dental services within the region. The Dental Coordinator participates in the development and implementation of the annual plan for Dental Services.
The position coordinates the activities of contracted professionals including dentists, dental assistants, oral surgeons, oral surgeon assistants, orthodontists and orthodontist assistants across the region’s communities. This requires the coordination of significant travel and ensures that contractors and subcontractors are supported so that they can perform under difficult conditions. The position maintains the region’s inventory and recommends capital purchases and has spending authority for the Dental Program budget.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Diploma in Dental Hygiene, along with (2) two years of experience working within a dental health program. Supervisory experience is considered an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
Current Indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees that apply and are successful on this term position may be offered an internal transfer assignment for the duration of the term pending Manager approval.
