Reporting to the Principle, the Custodian is responsible for providing essential services for maintaining a safe, secure, comfortable and sanitary environment for the school. In this role, the custodian makes sure the school room temperature levels are normal, water and fuel supplies are adequate and the school is cleaned.

The Custodian ensures that the building is readied for occupancy each day by opening the school, checking water and fuel supply and reporting shortages to the Principle, maintains a clean environment by daily sweeping or vacuuming of all floor areas, weekly scrubbing of all non-carpeted areas in school, cleaning of walls, handrails, and other surface areas as necessary, daily sanitizing of student/staff washroom and showers, removing garbage from the school building, stripping floors and re-waxing, shampooing of carpet flooring. The custodian also assists in basic maintenance of the building by clearing snow and ice from entrances.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
