Community Health Representative - Re-Advertisement

Reporting to the Supervisor, Community Public Health Nurse, the Community Health Representative (CHR) is responsible for promoting health and wellbeing in the communities. The purpose of this position is to positively impact health of Nunavummiut and reduce the need for acute health care through health promotion and illness prevention initiatives. The CHR works to build local capacity by integrating health promotion initiatives in the community and partnering with Community Health and Wellness Committees.
The CHR is a liaison between the Department of Health, community and other departments and organizations. The CHR incorporates Inuit knowledge, values, culture, language and IQ principles in their work. The CHR also participates and contributes in community, regional, territorial and national events, programs and initiatives.
To be successful in this position, the incumbent must have the ability to integrate Inuit culture into health promotion initiatives and gather, prepare, deliver and evaluate targeted health information. The incumbent must also have knowledge of Nunavut specific health and social issues including direct Northern experience in remote communities. The incumbent must have effective written and verbal communication in Inuktitut as well as knowledge of computers, preferably Microsoft and web browsing. First aid and CPR certification and valid driver’s license will be considered as an asset.
The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through completion of Grade Twelve and the ability to transfer knowledge into practice from CHR Certification program and on-going learning. Candidates who do not have the approved CHR training must be willing to access the training.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
