Advisor Community Development

Reporting to the Manager, Community Economic Development, as a member of the Community Economic Development Support Team, the Advisor Community Development provides support and guidance to ensure that communities have the necessary resources to prepare and implement community based plans leading to economic viability and local control of the sustainable development process.
The Advisor Community Development analyzes community based plans to identify and implement community priorities; builds and maintains working, partnering and communications relationships with government, crown corporations, community governments and employees and industry to support effective and efficient program delivery; provides information and support; and assists Community Development Committees (CDC) and Community Economic Development Officers (CEDO) to identify specific sector strategies and the terms of reference for initiatives.
An in-depth knowledge of Nunavut Communities, business and tourism industry; economics and finance; basic accounting skills; computer skills utilizing Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point software and strong leadership skills are required for this position.
This knowledge is normally acquired through a Degree from a University in Community Administration, Economic Development, Commerce, Renewable Resource Management, Land Use Planning, Public or Business Administration or a related field, with at least One (1) year work experience in a related field.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French.
Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Proficiency in speaking Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun is an asset.
Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
