Reporting to the Dental Coordinator, the position ensures the continued functioning of the dental services unit by providing clerical support for the operation. The position is the primary contact for other agencies and departments and directly impacts the effectiveness and efficiency of the services provided by the Dental Program staff.
The position is responsible for managing office procedures and overseeing operational factors to ensure the smooth functioning of the Dental Program by processing and submitting and receiving approvals to and from the Predetermination Center in Ottawa, using the Dental Services vehicle to meet Dental Providers at the Airport to delivering/picking up hand instruments and confidential dental mail for the Baffin communities and greeting and registering patients of all ages for Dental Specialist clinics at the Qikiqtani General Hospital. Other duties may include answering the phone, taking messages, typing, registering patients and directing dental related inquiries as well as maintaining and updating the filing system.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma along with one year experience in an office setting. A valid driver’s license is required for the position.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in Inuktitut is required. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
