Consumer Affairs

Overview
Consumer Affairs assists Nunavut communities and members of the general public with concerns they encounter in the area of consumer services, and provides support to municipal governments  with the licensing of lotteries, and business licencing.

Consumer Protection
Consumer Affairs gives advice and support to municipalities and residents to receive and resolve consumer complaints or concerns in a manner that best represents the consumer.

Lottery Licences
Consumer Affairs assists with lottery licensing (bingos, Nevada pull tab tickets, raffles, sports drafts, casinos,  poker tournaments) for Nunavut-wide lotteries, and/or in communities where the municipality is not delegated to issue licenses.

Consumer Affairs currently issues lottery licenses for the following municipalities:

  • Arctic Bay
  • Baker Lake
  • Clyde River
  • Grise Fiord
  • Hall Beach
  • Igloolik
  • Iqaluit
  • Kimmirut
  • Pangnirtung
  • Pond Inlet
  • Qikiqtarjuaq
  • Resolute Bay
  • Taloyoak

To apply for a lottery license in a municipality not listed above, please contact your local Hamlet office for more information. Please see below for lottery licensing application forms.

Business Licensing
In addition to lottery licensing,  Consumer Affairs assists in the registration and licensing of businesses, real estate agents and other vendors operating in Nunavut.

Consumer Affairs handles the licensing of:

  • Businesses (when not issued by a municipal government, or for Nunavut-wide businesses)
  • Real Estate Agencies
  • Collections Agencies
  • Direct Sellers
  • Vendors
  • Pawnbrokers and Second-hand Dealers
