The Registered Public Health Nurse, taking direction from the Manager of Iqaluit Public Health would provide public health services to individuals and groups in the community in accordance with the public health program standards set by the Chief Medical Officer of Health. Primary focus is on maternal/child health, school health, communicable disease and immunization program. The Public Health Nurse provides a public health perspective to individuals and communities that initiate health promotion programs and strategies.
To be successful in this position the incumbent should have knowledge of current trends in health promotion/disease prevention practices and programs. The candidate should also possess all of the core competencies for public health practice in Canada.
The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this job are obtained through a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized university (Required) and a minimum of 2 years recent experience (required). Candidates must be eligible to register with the Registered Nurses Association of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut and possess updated Immunization certification, CPR certification and a valid Driver’s license. Nursing experience in rural and remote communities, PHAC courses and CHNC certification are assets.
Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatugangit is an asset.
Casual Public Health Nurses receive Nursing Station Special Allowance of $4.61 per hour and Continuous Service Allowance of $2.31 per hour
