Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre will be offering the Makimautiksat Youth Wellness and Empowerment Camp Facilitator Training workshop, ONLINE. This online workshop will be delivered in 8 sessions (1 hour via Zoom, 1-2 hour independent work, per session). As a pilot project, this online course will be limited to Iqaluit residents only.
Upon completion of this training, participants will have knowledge and skills to deliver Makimautiksat Youth Wellness and Empowerment camp program and/or embed the eight ujarait/rocks model in their approaches to teaching and supporting young people.
The Makimautiksat Youth Wellness and Empowerment Camp program itself is for youth ages 8-13, developed by Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre out of a consultation process with youth, elders, parents, community members and youth workers in Nunavut. It is a 10-day land and community-based camp, or 8-16 week after-school program, focusing on fostering wellness, positive Inuit identity, community building and skill-building. The idea is that it builds protective factors for youth who attend the camp.
Format: 8 sessions will take place, over 4 Weeks, twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each session will be 1 hour, via Zoom, with 1-2 hour independent work, per session.
