First Educational Leadership Graduate Course in Inuktitut
First Educational Leadership Graduate Course in Inuktitut
The Government of Nunavut (GN) has introduced the first ever Educational Leadership Course that will be offered in Inuktitut to Inuktitut speaking educators on July 15-20, 2017.
The Certificate in Educational Leadership in Nunavut (CELN) program is offered by UPEI’s Faculty of Education in partnership with the Department of Education, Government of Nunavut (GN). This Certificate of Educational Leadership in Nunavut will be taught by Rebecca Hainnu. Rebecca has always been an advocate for Inuktitut language and culture and has been a recognized leader throughout her entire career. Since becoming a teacher, she has developed and guided teaching material in Inuktitut to better understand Nunavut and the Inuit culture.
The CELN course leads to principal certification and a graduate degree, and is designed to provide qualified teachers and educational leaders in Nunavut with the background, history, knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide culturally based, effective, and responsive, leadership in the school system.
Certification topics range from the introductory level through specialized courses that focus on parental engagement, action research and approaches to school improvement that support the implementation of educational legislation and policy in Nunavut.
This certificate offers an opportunity for established educational leaders such as principals or vice-principals, as well as aspiring leaders, to deepen their understanding of community-based leadership in Nunavut.
