Foxes sighted in Kugaaruk

The Department of Health is advising residents of Kugaaruk that there has been a significant increase in fox sightings in the community recently. There have been reports of foxes mingling with dogs, and of dogs being attacked by foxes. If your dog begins to behave in an unusual way please be careful and do not handle the dog.

Dogs and foxes can transmit rabies to people. Treatment must start quickly.

If you have been bitten or scratched, or had any contact with a fox, please go to the health center and report the incident immediately.

If you see a fox wandering around the community and acting strange, or if your dog has had contact with a fox, call the hamlet office:

   John Ivey,
   Senior Administrative Officer (SAO)
   Phone: 1-867-769-6281 Ext. 30
   Email: sao_kug@qiniq.com

Children should not play with wild animals, and people should avoid wildlife that comes into the community.
