1. the traditional way of life of the Aboriginal people of their region: (A)

2. the most significant changes that have occurred in regional lifestyle (B)
3. the main causes of change in lifestyle (B)

5. the structure, sphere of authority and decision-making style of municipal governments and/or band councils (B)

Skills
Processing Skills
Students will be able to:
1. use a key or legend to interpret map symbols
2. transfer inter-cardinal directions to simple maps
3. understand and use maps of different scales covering the same area
4. use colour contour and visual relief maps to visualize areas under study
5. identify regions of the NWT on simple maps and globes
6. identify cause and effects relationships
7. draw inferences from graphs, tables and charts
8. compare information gained from personal experience with that gained from reading
9. identify differences in perspective (the way people see things)
10. identify values that underlie lifestyles
Communication Skills
Students will be able to:
1. take notes in point form
2. write a short report on a researched topic
3. use simple illustrations, charts and graphs to support written work

1. news stories that report on archaeological and anthropological findings in the NWT
2. changes that are occurring in the North
3. magazine and other articles that describe current lifestyles in various parts of the NWT
