Superintendent of Insurance

On April 1, 2013, the Government of Nunavut assumed all administrative duties under Nunavut’s Insurance Act. The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) had provided these services on Nunavut’s behalf since 1999.

The Government of Nunavut regulates the territory’s insurance industry through its Office of the Superintendent of Insurance in Iqaluit. Nunavut’s Insurance Act and associated regulations set out the legal framework that governs insurance in the territory. Nunavut’s Minister of Finance is responsible for this Act.

THE HONOURABLE LORNE KUSUGAK

Minister of Finance

Lorne Kusugak was re-elected in the general election held on October 25, 2021, to represent the constituency of Rankin Inlet South in the 6th Legislative Assembly. Mr. Kusugak was elected to serve on the Executive Council during the November 17, 2021, proceedings of the Nunavut Leadership Forum. Minister Kusugak was formally sworn into office on November 19, 2021. He serves as the Government House Leader, Minister of Finance and Minister responsible for the Nunavut Housing Corporation and the Minister of the Utility Rates Review Council.
