Other services

The Nunavut Essential Workers Wage Premium (NEWWP) was a temporary program from the Government of Nunavut (GN) that provided eligible employers in Nunavut with funding to pay their lower-wage employees up to an extra $5 for each hour they worked. This program closed on September 30, 2020.

A supplementary program, the NEWWP Grant, provided eligible recipients with lump-sum payments to support the costs they took on to deliver essential services in communities, and to help acknowledge the essential contributions of Nunavut’s non-wage participants. This program closed on March 31, 2021.

Funding for these initiatives was provided by the Government of Canada, as part of its wider support for Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic.
