The Department of Family Services Income Assistance Division informs Nunavummiut that T5007 tax slips for 2019 Income Assistance recipients will be issued at the end of April.
To provide greater flexibility to those who may be experiencing hardships during the COVID-19 outbreak, the Canada Revenue Agency has deferred the return filing date deadline for 2019 tax returns for individuals until June 1, 2020.
However, as per Canada Revenue Agency guidelines, the Income Assistance Division recommends that income assistance recipients file their income tax returns by the original April 2 deadline, by providing an estimation of income (as accurate as possible). This is to ensure that there is no interruption in receiving standard taxpayer benefits, such as the Canada Child Benefit and the Old Age Benefit. Consulting an income tax advisor when preparing this estimate is recommended.
Once T5007 tax slips are issued, an update will need to be filed with Canada Revenue Agency.
The Income Assistance Division understands the impact this delay may have on clients and is working hard to reconcile vouchers and payments for November-December 2019 and January 2020.
