Building Confidence Through Assertiveness

In this course, participants gain insight with an emphasis on providing a safe, comfortable, sharing environment where participants gently learn and incorporate new skills that allow them to deal with others with more confidence. With basic assertive skills as the foundation, this workshop allows for individualized goal-setting, practice and feedback.

Course Content:

  • Differentiation between passive, aggressive, assertive communication
  • Self-esteem as it relates to communication
  • Non-verbal communication, personal boundaries
  • Conversation skills
    • Active listening
    • Open vs closed questions
    • Free information and self-disclosure
    • Initiating, ending and joining in
  • Responding to requests, saying no, setting limits
  • Communication technique: the DESC script
