Environment Week puts biodiversity in the spotlight

The Government of Nunavut is celebrating biodiversity for this year’s Environment Week with an online movie screening and a poster contest.

Nunavut Arctic College is making the documentary Arctic Greenhouse available for streaming. Nunavummiut are encouraged to watch the video so they may learn more about the challenges climate change poses to our Arctic wildlife.

There will also be a poster contest so people can share what they’ve learned about the Arctic’s diverse wildlife. From June 5 to 11, the Government of Nunavut Facebook page and Twitter page @GOVofNUNAVUT will feature social media postings including facts about the biodiversity inherent in the territory. Nunavummiut who wish to participate can choose to illustrate the biodiversity inherent to the territory in a poster.

Tag your poster in one of the GN’s social media accounts for a chance to win one of two prize packs from the Department of Environment’s resource library:

Reference book pack:

Common Birds of Nunavut

Common Insects of Nunavut

Terrestrial Mammals of Nunavut

Marine Mammals of Nunavut

Kids book prize pack:

Arctic Bugs
