Environmental Assessment Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Policy, Planning and Evaluation, the Environmental Assessment Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the review, assessment and reporting of potential impacts from a health and Department of Health perspective related to economic development projects, other developments, such as major infrastructure, and their decommissioning in Nunavut. This role includes the coordination of the working group of appropriate department representatives for input, comments and actions into environmental impact assessments. The incumbent will be the lead author for Government of Nunavut Department of Health submissions to regulated reviews and will be responsible for ensuring that submissions present the Department’s mandate and concerns.
The successful candidate must have a University degree, preferably in science (particularly environmental science), social science, environmental assessment, health impact assessment or a related field. You must have knowledge of environmental assessment processes (Nunavut process is preferred), federal and territorial government policies, legislation, roles, functions and structures. Knowledge of health/environmental statutes and regulations and of their application in addressing environmental health issues is required. The ideal candidate must have: the ability to lead and to work with a multi-disciplinary team; advanced knowledge of health and social issues in Nunavut; the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects; and the ability to handle large volumes of highly sensitive documents. You must have the ability to use software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and electronic communications. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
Equivalencies that consist of a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education and experience requirements will be considered.
This position is included in the Nunavut Employees Union and has a starting salary of $90,363.00 per annum, plus a Northern Allowance of $15,016.00 per annum.
