Celebrate Earth Hour by being Energy Wise!

The Department of Environment - Climate Change Secretariat (CCS), Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) and Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) invites Nunavummiut to join in Earth Hour celebrations this Saturday, March 25, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Earth Hour is an annual event held around the world to encourage individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to spread awareness of environmental issues, climate change and energy conservation.

In celebration of Earth Hour, we’ll start off the week with an Energy Wise campaign. Energy Wise is an initiative to help Nunavummiut learn the importance of saving energy in our home and community. It is a partnership between CCS, NHC, and QEC.

From March 20 to 25, 2023, we invite you to participate in our daily activities to raise awareness on issues related to energy efficiency, energy conservation and renewable energy use.

Each day we will post a different topic on social media that has to do with energy.
Take part in raising energy awareness by wearing green on Wednesday.
Schools and workplaces are encouraged to organize their own mock up Earth Hour on Friday.

In the spirit of Avatittinnik Kamatsiarniq, the Department of Environment encourages Nunavummiut to show their respect for the environment by turning off the lights, lighting a qulliq, enjoying a candlelight dinner, gazing at the northern lights, or sharing stories about the importance of maintaining a sustainable connection to the land for generations to come. Share your stories online using #EnergyWiseNU #EarthHourNU.
