Private Vehicle Registration in Nunavut
Vehicles on a public roadway in Nunavut must have valid insurance and a Vehicle Registration Certificate. A vehicle can be a motor vehicle, such as a car, or a non-motor vehicle, such as a trailer.
Vehicle registration should be renewed annually before the expiry date. If you bring a private vehicle into Nunavut, you must change to a Nunavut registration within 90 days of the vehicle entering the territory.
How to register your private vehicle
To register a vehicle, visit your local Motor Vehicle service provider with the following documentation:
- A completed Application for Passenger Vehicle Renewal form
- Proof of valid insurance for the vehicle
- Acceptable proof of Identification
If you are registering a vehicle from out-of-territory, additional documentation may be required. This includes the previous registration from whatever jurisdiction you came from, proof of insurance and any further requirements from the registrar. Application forms can be completed in advance or in person at your local Motor Vehicle service provider.
