Building Advisory Committee
About the Building Advisory Committee
The Building Advisory Committee (BAC) makes recommendations on the development of regulations under the Nunavut Building Code Act and the Fire Safety Act and makes decisions on matters of policy and code interpretation in cases of dispute.
Membership on the Building Advisory Committee is limited to subject matter experts, representatives of the Government of Nunavut and building development stakeholder groups.
The Committee is made up of a representative from the Department of Community and Government Services, and:
- An architect, other than an employee as defined in the Public Service Act.
- An engineer, other than an employee as defined in the Public Service Act.
- A representative nominated by the Nunavut Housing Corporation.
- A representative nominated by Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated.
- A representative nominated by Nunavummi Disabilities Makinnasuaqtiit Society.
- A representative nominated by the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Construction Association.
- An individual, other than an employee as defined in the Public Service Act, with experience as a private developer of residential, commercial or institutional buildings in Nunavut.
- Up to four additional members, other than employees as defined in the Public Service Act, as the Minister considers appropriate.
