Disability Employment Awareness Month

Last updated Tuesday, October 1, 2024

Each year, October is recognized as Disability Employment Awareness Month by many jurisdictions across Canada. This important recognition engages, educates, and raises awareness about inclusive employment in Canada, while promoting and celebrating the contributions of individuals with disabilities. It also highlights the need for more accessible environments, equal opportunities, and the protection of rights for people with disabilities.

This year, the Honourable Margaret Nakashuk, Minister of Family Services, is declaring October as Disability Employment Awareness Month across Nunavut. The observance is an important step towards fostering employment equity, inclusive communities, and supporting individuals to realize their full potential.

Through partnership with Nunavummi Disabilities Makinnasuaqtiit Society, the Department of Family Services is committed to supporting and advancing the full participation of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of life.

This October, communities, organizations, and individuals across Nunavut are encouraged to participate in events, programs, and activities that foster understanding and respect for the rights and abilities of all people.
