P.J. Akeeagok was elected in the general election held on October 25, 2021, to represent the constituency of Iqaluit-Niaqunnguu in the 6th Legislative Assembly of Nunavut.
The Department of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs (EIA) is the central administrative department of the government and provides leadership and management support to departments in their delivery of programs and services. EIA is also responsible for communicating the policies, objectives and accomplishments of the GN, within the government itself, to Nunavummiut, and to those outside the territory. The deputy minister of Executive is the secretary to cabinet and provides advice and administrative support to cabinet under the direction of the Premier.
The Devolution Secretariat leads the GN’s preparation for and participation in negotiations with the Government of Canada and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated.
Intergovernmental Affairs provides leadership and coordination for the management and development of intergovernmental strategies, policies and initiatives.
The Strategic Planning branch provides broad advice on government business planning, strategies, policies, legislation, and support for reviews of programs.
