Satellite communications issue across North

Due to a satellite issue on Sunday, October 2, 2016, there was an interruption to telephone, cellular, television and radio broadcasts, as well as internet applications in communities in Nunavut. This resulted in a temporary communications black out between communities, which is being restored.

Officers with Nunavut health centres, airports and government liaison offices are asked to ensure your satellite phone is fully charged, turned on and working properly. Please note that you will get the best results when you are using your satellite phone outside. If there is a need to report an emergency, please contact Nunavut Emergency Management at 1-867-222-0208 or 1-800-693-1666.

Other services are expected to be fully restored today between noon and 3 p.m. EDT. We will post updates as they become available.
