Iqaluit, Nunavut (March 29, 2019) – Premier Joe Savikataaq today announced the appointments of several Deputy Minister (DM) positions in Nunavut’s public service.

Effective April 1, Bernie MacIssac becomes DM of Economic Development and Transportation, taking over from Udloriak Hanson. Mr. MacIsaac has extensive experience in economic development and building industry relationships in Nunavut, and has been a strong member of the department’s directorate for more than four years.

“I’d like to thank Ms. Hanson for her vision and dedication to the Government of Nunavut over the last year and a half. I wish her all the best in her future projects, and know she will have great success as she moves forward to help Nunavut prosper,” said Premier Savikataaq.

Additionally, Premier Savikataaq announced the appointment of Ruby Brown as DM of Health, who started on March 18, 2019, and Constance Hourie’s appointment and dedication as DM of Community and Government Services since October 2018. Ms. Brown comes from British Columbia, with significant Northern and rural healthcare experience. Ms. Hourie arrives from Saskatchewan, with extensive background in developing community governance and municipal capacity.

“Filling these positions within key departments is vital to the operational success of our government,” said Premier Savikataaq. “Their experiences and abilities are very well-suited to their respective departments, and their leadership abilities will certainly bring renewal to their senior management teams.”
