Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Conference: Inuit Maligait Piqqusituqavut Inuuttiarnirmut - Inuit Customary Laws for Wellbeing

On October 28-29, 2019, the department of Culture and Heritage hosted the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Conference. This two-day gathering brought together Inuit Elders to speak on the theme ‘Inuit Maligait: Inuit customary laws as the foundation of wellbeing’. Keynote speakers included Gamailee Kilukishak, David Iqarialu, Isaac Shooyook, Arnaoyok Alookee, Kigutikakjuk Shappa, Miriam Nilaulaaq Aglukkaq, Joe Kayakyuak Karetak and the members of the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Katimajiit.

The department of Culture and Heritage is pleased to make available an audio recording of this conference along with a booklet including the biographies of each of the keynote speakers as well as the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Katimajiit.

Inuit Maligangit

The Inuit Maligangit book is the collection of knowledge from the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Katimajiit as well as excerpts from 4 Iglooik Elders – Lucien Ukalianuk, Meeka Aloat Akittiq, Herve Paniaq and Pauloosie Quliktalik. This resource is currently only available in Inuktitut.
