The community of Kimmirut, previously known as Lake Harbour, is located at 62° 51.0' N, 69° 52.8' W on the southern coast of Baffin Island, near the mouth of the Soper River. It is located just south of Nunavut’s capital of Iqaluit. Although the area has been inhabited for quite some time, the community was officially incorporated in 1982.
