Reporting to the Nurse Manager in the operating room at Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqaluit, this CSR technician provides central sterilizing services as an essential part of the health team. The CSR technician performs all duties related to the cleaning, sterilization and distribution of supplies and equipment in accordance with hospital standards, policies and procedures. The incumbent works closely with surgeons, anesthetists and registered nurses and has direct impact on the day-to-day operations in the delivery of surgical services to clients.
The CSR technician is responsible for collecting, receiving, cleaning, decontaminating and assembling supplies, instruments, linen and equipment according to established procedures, regulations and recognized standards. The incumbent will check instruments and equipment regularly, operate and maintain the sterilizer while ensuring accurate and consistent report and record keeping, and advise nurse manager of instruments and equipment needing replacement. The incumbent is also responsible for cleaning and/or sterilizing all items from other departments and programs within Iqaluit such as Public Health and Baffin Correctional Centre. The CSR technician will maintain standards of medical asepsis and infection control in accordance with WHMIS Guidelines, Workplace Safety and Health Regulations and Infection Control Guidelines.
The candidate must have a Grade 12 education and be certified in a recognized CSR Technician course (CSA certification preferred), WHMIS and CPR. The incumbent must be able to perform endoscopic reprocessing independently with a working knowledge of the medivator DSD system. Recent relevant experience in acute care healthcare is required, including a working knowledge of Steris I Processors, Steris Equipment Washer and Steris Autoclave. The candidate must have the ability to understand and follow policies and procedures, instructions and specialized techniques. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. The candidate must also have the ability to work independently and as a member of the team and have the mental and physical ability to meet the demands of the job. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatugangit is an asset.
