Reporting to the Principal, the School Secretary is responsibly for providing a liaison between the public and the school, as well as co-ordinate appropriate documents to the regional education office, Qikiqtani School Operations. This position is expected to maintain all record keeping for the school and staff.
The School Secretary is the receptionist at the front office area of the school. This individual answers the telephone, interprets/translates at meetings between parent and teacher, translates letters and other school materials and performs the general office duties including typing, filing, record keeping and other duties under the direction of the Principal. The School Secretary supplies information about the school to the general public as well as to the students and staff regarding public announcements. Responsibilities also include ordering school supplies, recording leave & attendance, and data entry of purchase orders, time-sheets, leave forms and student attendance. The School Secretary is also responsible for contacting substitute teachers and other related positions for staff .
Knowledge of office/school routines, School Programs offered and of general office equipment are required to be succesful in this position. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively with other agencies and GN departments and have knowledge of computer programs (Word, Excel, SIS/Maple wood, Qaujisaut, FirstClass).
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through the Office Procedures course at NAC or Grade 10 equivalent with reasonable level of literacy in Inuktitut and English is essential and at least 2 years related work experience.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
