Do you have a friendly, caring attitude, are you a people person?  This position may be for you.  Under the direction of the Registered Nurse Manager, the Recreation Therapy Worker plans, organizes and conducts therapeutic, leisure and recreational activities for the residents and their families in order to enhance the health, well-being and quality of life for residents.  The Recreation Therapy Worker performs these duties in keeping with the philosophies of client-centered care while demonstrating respect for the traditional and individual values of the residents and the community being served.  The Recreation Therapy Worker is expected to work with minimal supervision.

Recreational and leisure activities are vital to residents and families of Continuing Care Centres in that they enable residents to achieve their highest level of physical functioning, encourage and enhance mobility, and enhance the resident’s mental and spiritual well-being.

The incumbent should have a completion of a recognized program in Recreation Therapy and one year of direct experience in a Continuing Care setting, be mature, responsible, dependable, reliable with a valid class 4 Driver’s License, in addition: experience working in a multicultural environment would be an asset; knowledge in leisure/recreation skills such as music, creative arts, fitness or cooking; CPR/First Aid Certificate; WHMIS Training; computer skills (MS Office applications, internet, outlook, etc.); communication skills; and positive, friendly, caring attitude.
