Under supervision of the Senior Instructor, Trades Programs, Kivalliq Campus, the incumbent’s primary responsibility is to plan, instruct, evaluate and report on student learning in Nunavut’s Apprenticeship Accredited Electrician program, for each of the apprenticeship levels, and also provides the same level of delivery/support for the Electrician Pre-apprenticeship program to meet all standards and requirements of the Nunavut Apprenticeship, Occupational & Certification Board. In addition, the incumbent provides the planning, instruction, reporting & delivery of Nunavut’s Apprenticeship Accredited Housing Maintainer Serviceman program, for apprenticeship level 1 & 2.

The primary responsibilities of the Instructor, Electrician Program is to plan and instruct Trades related Mathematics, Science & English. The incumbent will also identify materials, hand & power tools, construction techniques, interpreting blue prints, safe work habits, including Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHIMIS and First Aid Courses. While maintaining above standards, the Instructor, Electrician Program will also deliver individual and shop work/setting instruction in the practical portions of the Program. Other responsibilities include ensuring that the Electrician, housing maintainer serviceman apprenticeship, and Electrician pre-apprenticeship, programs are relevant and meeting the needs of students while also providing supports to adult students. In addition, the incumbent provides planning, instruction; reporting & delivery/support of Nunavut’s Apprenticeship Accredited Housing Maintainer Serviceman program, for pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship level 1 and 2.  With Nunavut–wide implications, the Instructor for the Electrician program monitors applicable trades programming and designs the trades’ curriculum to develop in adult students, the skills, knowledge, personal qualities and attitudes necessary for successful employment in business, industry and government, through the delivery of accredited trades programs.

The successful incumbent is required to have an Interprovincial Journeyperson Electrician certification. The ideal candidate will also hold a certificate in Adult Education or must have an aptitude to work toward one; with a minimum of one year related experience teaching vocational-technical students or mentoring apprentices in an adult learning setting. An Industrial Arts Instructor Certificate with experience teaching in Nunavut may be considered. Solid working knowledge of Trades related Math and Science, with working knowledge of computer programs is also required.  A solid background in both oral and written communication skills with a strong aptitude for administrative matters is essential to the position.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatugangit is an asset.
