Nunavut Arctic College is seeking an Elder on Campus for the Nunatta Campus in Iqaluit. Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the Elder on Campus would provide support /expertise to Staff and Students on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) & Inuit Societal Values (ISV) as required. The Elder on Campus would be welcoming, approachable and help create a safe learning environment. The Elder on Campus would also be required to provide traditional counselling as requested.

The ideal candidate would ensure that staff is supported by advising on IQ & ISV program requirements in planning and on terminology and content. The Elder on Campus would also act a guest speaker and provide counseling to staff when needed.

The ideal candidate would ensure that students are supported by responding to queries on cultural aspects, act as a resident parent; provide consoling when students are homesick and counseling when requested.

The incumbent should have a broad knowledge of all dialects of Inuktut, Inuit Culture, Inuit History and mythology. The Elder on Campus should also have a working knowledge of standardized Inuktitut syllabic orthography, strong communication skills in Inuktitut, work as a part of a team and to be supportive and instructive.
