Legislation, Manuals and Handbooks
Our core business flows from Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and the Public Service Act and Public Service Regulations, the Human Resources Manual, and the collective agreements with the Nunavut Employees Union and Federation of Nunavut Teachers.
The Public Service Act is the legislative authority for the terms and conditions of employment in the public service. Its Regulations deal with the particular applications and interpretations of the Public Service Act. The Public Service Annual Report is prepared on an annual basis in compliance with the Public Service Act.
Other legislation that impacts our operations are: The Arbitration Act, Health and Safety Act, Canada Human Rights Act, Nunavut Human Rights Act, Workers' Compensation Act and the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Manuals are updated continuously to reflect changes in the collective agreements, legislation, and government directives. Manuals include The Human Resources Manual and the Senior Managers' Handbook and Excluded Employees Handbook.
