Pediatric Team Recognized with Healthy Kids Award

IQALUIT, Nunavut (March 27, 2014) – Nunavut’s pediatric complex care team received the Connected Care Award at an awards ceremony in Ottawa this week for its work on optimizing health services to children with complex needs.

The joint CTV and Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Healthy Kids’ Award recognizes the work of partners "working together to accomplish more than any one group can do alone to help kids and families to be their healthiest" in the Connected Care category. Julie Massicotte, nurse practitioner and primary health care clinician on the team, and Dr. Amber Miners, clinic chair, accepted the award at a ceremony in Ottawa on Wednesday, March 26.

"I’m thrilled our Nunavut health professionals have been recognized for their outstanding work," said Monica Ell, Minister of Health. "Congratulations to all who made this possible and especially to the wonderful team who deserve this award."

The pediatric complex care team was established in 2009 to improve co-ordination of care, facilitate information sharing, and to optimize resources at the local-level. The team includes doctors, nurse practitioners, public health, home and community care, social services, rehabilitation services and the Baffin regional dietician.

The team helps children with complex issues, children requiring long-term treatment, or any child that the team feels would benefit from its services.
