Air quality alert due to Iqaluit fire

The Department of Health advises Iqaluit residents that air quality is being monitored after a fire started yesterday in the dump’s staging area, and warns against exposure to smoke.

People with heart or lung disease, asthma, the elderly, children and pregnant women should limit their exposure to dump fire smoke. This can be done by avoiding the area around the dump fire and staying indoors as much as possible with the doors and windows closed. People should seek medical attention if they have symptoms like trouble breathing or tightness in the chest.

Air quality monitoring updates will follow as soon as they are available.
