The Department of Finance is responsible for the government's fiscal policy direction and leadership concerning the management of the territory's finance.

The Department of Finance includes:

Directorate

The Directorate coordinates the senior management of the Department and ensures that it fulfills its mandate. The Deputy Minister also serves as the Secretary of the Financial Management Board (FMB) and as Comptroller General of Nunavut. The Directorate, through the Registrar, provides the FMB with administrative support. This office also coordinates the departmental human resource activities, and the development and monitoring of the departmental budget. This office also includes the functions of the Office of the Assistant Deputy Minister and the Office of the Assistant Comptroller General together with Senior Departmental Advisors.

Fiscal Management

The Fiscal Management Branch develops the Government of Nunavut's (GN)multi-year fiscal framework, manages the annual budget development process, provides analysis and recommendations to the FMB on financial and economic conditions affecting the government's fiscal priorities and policies, manages the territorial tax system, provides tax policy advice and manages the risk function.

This Branch has four Divisions, namely:

Internal Audit Services

Internal Audit supports the departments and agencies of the GN by providing independent audit and consulting activities in a manner designed to add value and improve operations. Our activity helps the GN accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of accountability, risk management, control and governance processes.
