Canada Child Benefit replaces the National Child Benefit Supplement

Start Date: June 30, 2016

End Date: July 31, 2016

Nunavut 45 sec

On July 1, 2016, the Government of Canada introduces the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), which replaces three different existing benefits, including the National Child Benefit Supplement (NCBS.) The CCB is a new federal benefit for families with children, ensuring continued support for those who need it most.

Effective April 2016, the Government of Nunavut exempted the NCBS from income assistance calculations. Previously, the supplement was considered income and deducted from the total amount of assistance a family was eligible to receive.

The CCB is also exempt from income assistance calculations, and this ongoing exemption provides a significant amount of extra financial resources to recipients of income assistance with children.
