Climate change is happening, and the effects in Nunavut are more noticeable than in other places around the world. Major scientific findings show that a number of changes are occurring in Nunavut. Elders, hunters, and other Nunavummiut are noticing changes on the land as well. These changes will affect communities differently across the territory, and can be difficult to predict.
A main focus for Nunavut is promoting adaptation to new conditions that have come with climate change. This means adjusting planning, decisions, and activities for the expected impacts of climate change. Taking adaptive action will minimize harm to people and communities.
The Nunavut Climate Change Centre helps Nunavummiut learn about Arctic climate change, and how they can engage and adapt.
