Queen's Diamond Jubilee
2012 marks the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. This Diamond Jubilee year is an opportunity to honour The Queen's extraordinary dedication and service to Canada and to celebrate our country's many achievements during Her Majesty's reign.

Commemorations will be coordinated by the Office of the Commissioner and the Department of Executive & Intergovernmental Affairs, working with the Office of the Premier and federal Department of Canadian Heritage. More information will be published at a later date.

Diamond Jubilee medal
A new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.

Members of the general public are welcome to contact the offices of members of Parliament, senators, lieutenant governors, territorial commissioners, or provincial and territorial premiers to suggest names of candidates. Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal Presentation - Pond Inlet

March 23, 2012 - Premier Eva Aairak is pleased to announce the Government of Nunavut’s first presentation of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to three Nunavummiut – Theresa Koopa Maktar, David Parks, and Thomas Ootook, all from Pond Inlet, are being recognized for their individual contributions to the well-being of Nunavummiut and Nunavut.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark the 60th anniversary of her Majesty’s accession to the Throne and is being awarded to 60,000 deserving Canadians for their contributions to their community, province or territory, and/or Canada. The Government of Nunavut, as a partner organization, will be awarding 55 of these medals to outstanding Nunavummiut throughout the year.

There is still time to nominate someone for the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. The deadline for GN nominations is March, 30, 2012. Nomination forms can be found on the government website at www.gov.nu.ca.

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal Presentation – Kimmirut

April 4, 2012 - Premier Eva Aariak is pleased to announce the Government of Nunavut’s presentation of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to Sandy Akavak of Kimmirut. Mr. Akavak is being recognized for his individual contribution to the well-being of Nunavummiut and Nunavut and for his service as a Special Constable with the RCMP.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the Throne and is being awarded to 60,000 deserving Canadians for their contributions to their community, province or territory, and/or Canada. The Government of Nunavut, as a partner organization, will be awarding 55 of these medals to outstanding Nunavummiut throughout the year.
