Mandate
The Evaluation office conducts program evaluations, support to policy assessments and serves as a resource to other GN departments and agencies with respect to evaluation and performance measurement.
Function
Our office’s main function is to carry out comprehensive evaluations of GN programs and services. The Evaluation office is committed to a participatory model of evaluation in which affected departments and stakeholders are involved at several stages of the evaluation process.
By employing our evaluation services, GN departments are able to showcase success stories, identify policy needs, incorporate ‘best practices’, and benefit from recommendations for improving program performance. The Evaluation office is also responsible for developing and maintaining a performance measurement system for the GN.
Roles
Our office serves in the capacity as an expert evaluation resource for all GN departments and to assist them in the development of their specific department’s evaluation initiatives. In addition to our evaluation responsibilities, we will carry out research and analysis that is essential to the efficiency and improvement of the day-to-day functioning of the GN. Upon requests from Departments and as directed by Cabinet, the Evaluation Office will perform or oversee the following types of projects:
- Program evaluations;
- Performance management;
- Review, assessments and/or special projects; and
- Consultation services.

- Modern knowledge and traditional ways of Inuit;
- Proficiency in Inuktitut, English and French; and
- Rigorous administrative controls on project timing and costs.
