Transition to Work Program

The Transition to Work Program helps Income Support Participants make the transition from Income Support into the full-time workforce. Eligible Participants may receive a financial benefit in addition to their wages from employment.

Benefits
Income Support Participants funded under the Transition to Work Program may be eligible to receive:

  • A monthly payment for up to 4 months (the Participant must maintain 4 consecutive months of full-time employment working the maximum number of hours outlined in the program guidelines).

Maximum monthly payments under this program may change.  Your Income Support Worker can tell you what the current maximum benefits are.

For Income Support Participants, payments made under the Transition to Work Program will be exempted as income if they still need to apply for Income Assistance, as long as the Participant maintains the employment outlined in their Income Support Agreement.  Wages from employment will be treated in a manner outlined in the Social Assistance Regulations.

To qualify
To qualify for benefits under the Transition to Work Program, applicants must:

  • Have received Income Support for each of the past 3 months
  • Have written proof from an employer of full-time employment (24 hours a week or more) or self-employment (a business plan approved by the local Economic Development Officer must be supplied)
  • Follow certain guidelines that your Income Support Worker will provide.

To apply
If you wish to apply for the Transition to Work Program, contact your Income Support Worker for additional information.  Participants must complete an Income Support Agreement and Action Plan with their Income Support Worker prior to receiving benefits under the Transition to Work Program.
