Nunavut Child Benefit

The government of Nunavut works with the Government of Canada, through the National Child Benefit, to help families raise healthy children and reduce child poverty.

To qualify
The Nunavut Child Benefit (NUCB) is a tax-free payment given to qualifying families with children under the age of 18 and living at home.  The Nunavut Child Benefit includes a basic benefit and a Territorial Worker’s Supplement.  (The Territorial Worker’s Supplement is an additional benefit for families who have earned a certain minimum income the previous year and which have one or more children under the age of 18 and living at home.)

Benefits
The NUCB is combined with the Canada Child Tax Benefit into a single tax-free monthly payment.  The amount of Nunavut Child Benefit you receive is based on your family’s total income, wages, and the number of children you have under the age of 18 and living at home.

To apply

To receive the NUCB, you must file your federal income tax return each year.  Your return includes all the information needed to determine whether you should receive the benefit.

If you qualify, the NUCB will automatically be added to your monthly, tax-free Canada Child Tax Benefit.
