School Storage
Requirements: Floor finished with rolled flooring for heated storage, painted plywood for unheated space. Shelving for bulk storage and storage racks for various equipment. Space can be a combination of heated and unheated, but total will not exceed total allowable area.
Criteria: Room size 6m2 for a single classroom school, 9m2 for a two-classroom school.

CEC/Seminar/Window Meeting Room
Requirements: Floor finished with rolled flooring or viewing panel in door for view into entry and teaching area. Counter with sink, storage below, cupboards above. May contain combination stove/fridge/oven unit. Furniture determined by board in consultation with school staff.
Criteria: Incorporated only with approval of the Minister.

Washrooms
Requirements: Floor finished with rolled flooring. Counter-top sinks with additional support for front edge. Washroom stalls and side splash units as required. Durable, water-resistant walls. Due to size of facility, shall be used by staff also.
Criteria: Number of fixtures and handicap accessible standards determined by latest version of the National Building Code of Canada. Minimum one room for each sex.

Mechanical/ Electrical Service Rooms
Requirements: Floor finished with rolled flooring, antiskid painted plywood, or concrete with coloured floor hardener. Durable, easily maintained walls. Storage shelving and work counter top to accommodate minor equipment/parts and maintenance area.
Criteria: Standards determined by the latest versions of the National Building Code of Canada, the Electrical Code and the Mechanical Code. Every attempt should be made to minimize area and combine all services within one room.

Circulation Areas
Requirements: Several areas make up the overall circulation in a building, including lobby, coat/boot storage areas, corridors, hallways, and student gathering spaces. Their design will respond to specific needs, but will not exceed 20% of net program area. Net program area is total of instructional, administrative and support areas.
Criteria: These circulation spaces shall be included in all buildings.
