Strategic Investments Program
This program helps businesses majority-owned by Nunavut residents, municipalities, not-for-profit corporations and societies. Under the program, businesses can get a contribution to cover expansion or start-up costs. Municipalities, not-for-profit corporations and societies can get funding for training, marketing and community development. There are two funds within this program - Nunavut Business Investment Fund and Nunavut Economic Foundations.
Nunavut Business Investment Fund
The Nunavut Business Investment Schedule (NBIS) provides contributions to Nunavut business ventures with anticipated economic development outcomes. These contributions are structured to complement and attract Debt Financing and/or Equity Investment. This fund:
- helps a business complete a financing package for a major expansion or start-up; and
- provides contributions to Nunavut business ventures in strategic sectors of Nunavut’s economy.
Nunavut Economic Foundations
The purpose of the Nunavut Economic Foundations Schedule (NEFS) is to build the foundation of Nunavut’s economy through accountable contributions to Nunavut organizations and municipalities. Projects must be of an economic development nature and must present measurable tangible economic development benefits such as jobs, training opportunities, etc. This fund:
- helps build community economies and support regional economic development in key sectors of the Nunavut economy; and
- provides contributions for events, professional development, education and training and physical community assets.
