Overview/Contact Information - Arts & Culture
Art is what Nunavut is known for. It is part of the fabric that ties this massive territory together. We have artists across the territory. It’s estimated that three thousand Nunavut residents earn some income from arts sales. Visual arts alone contributes $33 million annual to the territory's economy.
The department has the new Arts Development Program. It can help you succeed as an artist. Musicians, actors, authors, professional photographers and dancers, among others, can apply. We are proud of our artists in Nunavut and want to help them succeed.
The Tourism and Cultural Industries division co-ordinates the program. The division works with Nunavummiut to develop strong and sustainable tourism and cultural sectors throughout Nunavut. The division provides information and advice to businesses, supports community organizations, non-governmental organizations and sector associations. It also manages the implementation of the Government of Nunavut’s arts & crafts strategy.
Objectives of the division:
- To provide quality advice and support to the Minister concerning tourism, arts and crafts, film, and performing arts.
- To develop, lead and co-ordinate implementation of programs and strategies aimed at developing Nunavut’s tourism sector and cultural industries.
